Film Submission Terms

Wonder of Africa Film Festival Last updated: 17 September 2026

These Film Submission Terms (“Submission Terms”) govern the submission of films to Wonder of Africa Film Festival (“the Festival,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) for consideration for inclusion in our programme. By submitting a film, you (“the Entrant”) agree to be bound by these Submission Terms.

1. Eligibility

  • Submissions are open to filmmakers as described on our Submit Your Film page, including any eligibility criteria (e.g., completion date, runtime, genre) specified for the current edition.
  • We reserve the right to reject any submission that does not meet our eligibility criteria, without obligation to provide reasons.

2. Ownership and Rights Warranty

By submitting a film, you warrant and represent that:

  • You are the rightful owner of the film, or you hold all necessary rights, licences, permissions, and clearances (including for music, footage, likenesses, locations, and third-party content) to submit the film and, if selected, to grant us the rights described in these Submission Terms.
  • The film does not infringe the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party.
  • The film does not contain any defamatory, unlawful, or otherwise actionable content.
  • You have obtained appropriate consent from any identifiable individuals appearing in the film.

You remain solely responsible for any claims, disputes, or liabilities arising from the content of your film.

3. Submission Materials

  • You retain full copyright ownership of your film at all times. Submitting your film to the Festival does not transfer ownership to us.
  • By submitting, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to review, evaluate, and (for selected films) screen your submission materials for the purposes described in these Submission Terms.
  • We will handle submission materials with reasonable care but are not liable for loss, damage, or unauthorised access to submitted materials beyond our reasonable control.

4. Screening Rights (Selected Films)

If your film is selected for inclusion in the Festival programme, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to:

  • Publicly screen the film at our physical venue(s) during the Festival dates (7–10 April 2027)
  • Include the film in our seven-day online programme, where applicable and where you have consented to online screening
  • Use short clips, stills, and promotional materials from the film (with credit to you/the production) for the purpose of marketing the Wonder Of Africa Film Festival across our website, social media, press, and other promotional channels

This licence is limited to the purposes described above and does not grant us any ownership or broader distribution rights over your film. Any additional use (e.g., extended distribution, licensing to third parties) requires your separate written consent.

5. Withdrawal

You may withdraw your submission at any time prior to selection by notifying us in writing. Once a film has been selected and confirmed for screening, withdrawal is subject to our discretion and may not be possible close to the Wonder Of Africa Film Festival dates due to programming commitments.

6. No Guarantee of Selection

Submission of a film does not guarantee selection or screening. Selection decisions are made at our sole discretion, and we are under no obligation to provide feedback or reasons for non-selection.

7. Entry Fees

A non-refundable entry fee applies to every submission, at every category and deadline:

  • Fee: R111 (approx. US$7) per category, per deadline
  • Entry fees are payable at the time of submission via FilmFreeway.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable, whether or not your film is selected for the programme, except where required by law or where we cancel the Festival entirely (see our Refund and Cancellation Policy).

8. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Wonder Of Africa Film Festival (NPC Reg No: 2026/687019/08), its directors, staff, and volunteers against any claims, losses, damages, or costs arising from a breach of the warranties given in Section 2, or from any third-party claim relating to your submitted film.

9. Data Protection

Personal information collected as part of your submission (e.g., name, contact details, biography) will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

10. Governing Law

These Submission Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
